You may have read in the Stanstead Journal, or seen it for yourself this fall, that work has started on the new trail entrance park. So far, a large wooden frame for the information signs has been erected, large boulders were positioned for a seating area, grass was seeded and the parking lot was increased to hold six more cars. This new entrance park, which is located at KM 0.5 (near Ayer’s Cliff) will make an ideal mini park for Stanstead East and Ayer’s Cliff, and will offer visitors a lovely picnic area with a beautiful view of a bend in the Tomifobia river.
The heavy work is done, however still to come (as funding becomes available) will be a series of carved wooden boards with information related to the trail, a split rail fence, two additional picnic tables and a bench. There will also be several pedestals with information related to the wildlife that can be observed on the trail. If everything goes according to plan and the necessary funds are made available, the park will be in full operation for next year!
Many thanks to the trail volunteers who worked very hard on this project to date. If you would like to help with the project, please consider making a donation or contact us if you would like to volunteer your time.
